We were continuing the clearing of the birch at Tidenham Chase and enlarging the heathland landscape. Going further into the dense coppices we were taking out some very leggy gorse as well. We were pleased to see small bunches of blueberry and heather dotted about so opening up the coppice will help them expand. We also made a point not to cut the rowan or blackberry which were there.

It is often the case that trees are pushed whilst they are being sawn to make it easier and avoid getting the saw stuck.

Whoops! A gorse bush set itself alight next to the fire. It was quickly put out! |

This shows one of the areas we cleared. There was a pond to the left of the image which had been totally smothered by trees and shrubs. It is now open and should attract more pond species.
