Speculation and Serridge Butterfly Survey
There were two groups out today - one group did the butterfly and wildlife survey in Serridge Woods whilst the other group removed old railway wire from about 630 metres of the track at Speculation! That is serious work!
The original railway lines had been closed in 1963 and are now very good hard tracks . Some areas still have the original fencing which are slowly being removed.

This shows a few interesting bits where the old wire had come into contact with the sweet chestnut and the wire was through the tree at Speculation. |

We removed wire along roughly 630 metres of the track which equated to a whole trailer load, the wire was very brittle in places and broke easily so was placed into old tree bags. |

We were at Speculation removing the old wire off of railway fencing. The posts were left in situ as heritage features. |
