Linear Park - Wildlife Survey

Grid Ref SO650126

We are doing wildlife surveys through the summer and Linear Park was our first outing. It was unfortunate that the day was overcast and cloudy which meant that butterflies were in short supply with only one seen but the abundance of plants and wild flowers kept us busy! A Small pearl Bordered Fritillary was seen in the afternoon when the sun appeared.

The full report of species recorded can be seen here

The wildlife survey team are gathered for a briefing at the start. We were issued with a map and various identification sheets. We were then split up into small groups with instructions on our area to survey.

This was an unexpected find by one of the ponds.

A Marsh Orchid which had previously not been seen in this area.

Tiny ducklings with their mother in the ponds. There were two broods of ducklings and also a brood of tiny Moorhen chicks.
