Serridge Green and Great God Meadow

This time we covered the area around Serridge Green and Great God Meadow and we split into two groups. We were concentrating on the plant species and were delighted to find Adder's-tongue Fern which is quite rare. Adder's-tongue Fern is an unusual fern that grows in old grasslands, on hillsides, along woodland rides and on sand dunes. It usually appears between June and August, spending the rest of the year underground as a rhizome. It is considered a good indicator species of ancient meadows and can be found alongside Common Spotted-orchids which we also found. We also found Bog Pimpernel and these delightful little flowers are quite unlike most other members of the Primrose family.
