Horsepool Bottom Nature Reserve at Oakraven Field Centre
Grid Ref SO667167
The team met at Oakraven Field Centre where we spent the morning gathering up fallen and cut branches to burn on two large fires. The 1.5 acres of nature reserve is looking good but the large pond is clogged up with many plants. We cleared some fencing to allow a JCB to get in and it will clear the pond out and restore it to a good condition.
At lunchtime, we all went into the field centre building which used to be Abenhall Village School. Our rangers had cooked us venison stew followed by mince pies and custard. This was a thank you from our rangers for all the volunteering work the team do during the year - the team would like to express our own thank you to the rangers for providing us with many beautiful days out in the forest!
Collecting the fallen wood for the fire.
The old school hall is ideal for a hearty lunch!
One of our team member's does Morris Dancing and he collected these large sticks for the Morris Dancers to use. See www.forestmorris.org.uk
