Stenders Quarry GWT Reserve
Grid Ref SO659184
We last went to the Stenders Quarry over a year ago and we are suitably impressed with the way the limestone grassland is now flourishing. As usual, there was a lot of small, thorny scrub to clear on the steep sides plus some larger trees and we broke up into two groups to slither and slide up and down the edges! The weather was lovely so, apart from a few sliding bottoms which did not require the first aiders, everyone enjoyed the day.
There is a new bench situated at the far end of the quarry for those who wish to contemplate the view.

This is where the new bench is sited and gives the vista down through the quarry. |

A few of the 14 Hebridean sheep were watching us from above. It was planned to capture the sheep today and move them to one of the other GWT reserves but there were road works immediately outside the gate to the site so it was decided that the GWT truck and trailer might have caused a little bit of a problem parked there! They will be moved soon. |
