Wigpool FC/GWT Reserve

It was a beautiful but windy day at Wigpool and we continued to remove the evasive birch. Over the years we have managed to control the spread of young birch across this area of heathland by cutting, burning off the cuttings and daubing the stumps with an effective herbicide.

This year, the ponds at Wigpool are full and the water is very clear, unlike last year when the ponds had virtually dried up. |

The smoke from the fire is in the background but the little blue tree stumps in the foreground are an example of herbicide treatment. |

Towards the end of the day the area is well cleared and the fire will be doused before we leave. |
