May Hill National Trust Reserve
Grid Ref SO690221
Another day with the National Trust on May Hill. This was our third visit and the question is "Why has every visit been when it is so foggy and rainy that we can't even see the view???"
Maybe next time....
We were clearing up and burning the brush which had been logged on one of the rides. We did see the loose ponies who live on the hill.
This photo is just to prove that the National Trust Ranger does give us a briefing before we start work!

Loading the brush onto the smoky fire. There were quite a few old plastic tree guards which had been discarded amid the brush and some of these were taken to be recycled on one of the team members allotments. |

Two enormous fires clearing the ride. Many thanks to our Ranger who provided home baked banana and chocolate cake which was much appreciated. |

On the same day another group went out to Gorsty Knoll. Luckily the rain held off until just after lunch which gave time for mince pies, sausage rolls and to celebrate a birthday with a choice of cake!

There was some raking up of the old bracken which clears the ground to encourage the wild flowers to grow.

These scraggy trees were removed to open up the path way. |
