Horsepool Bottom Nature Reserve at Oakraven Field Centre

Another visit to the lovely nature reserve only to find that the pond had totally disappeared under a mass of vegetation. This was now a major task for us. We also cleared the track which leads to the pond. A lot of broken glass was removed from an old midden and we shall keep an eye on it as the glass regularly comes to the surface.

This is the pond when we started. Bullrushes dominated but there were many other plants in there.

By halfway through the day, signs of clearing could be seen. The pontoon at the side is now visible again. Regular dry weather lately and the mass of vegetation made the ground below relatively dry.
