Woorgreens Lake GWT Reserve

We were finishing off the coppicing of the hedge alongside the lake and some of our team were clearing the gorse at the edge of Kensley Pond.

The plan was to hedgelay along the side of Woorgreen Lake which we had done in previous years (see 2006 )(see 2007 )(see 2010). However, we realised that the hedge was in such a state that the only future for it was to coppice it right down and wait a few years for it to grow again to a reasonable size for hedgelaying.

The track is still muddy but the hedge on the left was removed as well as the small alder beside it.

The lake looks quite dismal in this photo but there were a variety of water birds on it including Moorhen, Canada Geese and Greylag Geese. The Canada Geese made quite a racket as they did not like the sound of the chainsaw!
