Heavy fog and pouring rain put off a few of our regulars but the stalwart ones amongst us soldiered on! We all had two minutes silence at 11am in respect of Remembrance Day and could hear the church bell ringing in Chepstow.
We could not cut the small birch in the main part of the heathland as the rain would have washed the herbicide away so we concentrated on an area beside the top pond. This area was full of weedy trees and was in need of coppicing to allow new growth.

The image on the left is of our ranger attaching the
rope to the tree before felling so that it did not fall into the pond.
On the right is the team who are pulling the tree as it fell..

The main site is now being cleared by the team and, by the end of the day, all the birch on the right of the image was removed. |

Did you know that we could cut these trees with such a little pair of loppers??? |
