Awres Glow

Grid Ref SO 6362 0926

The team met at Mallards Pike lake and drove past it to the valley site at Awres Glow. There are four fairly new ponds there and we were planting wild flowers round them. Some of the team cleared young Birch around the area.

Getting started!

We planted:-

Birdsfoot Trefoil
Meadow Vetchling
Self Heal
Greater Birdsfoot Trefoil
Cuckoo Flower
Betony

These are nectar or larval food plants.

We found a large patch of Orange Peel Fungus (Aleuria aurantia)

Orange Peel Fungus are saprobic meaning they consume and decompose organic matter.

This is one of the very few common cup fungi that are edible; most of the others are in varying degrees poisonous, although some become edible if thoroughly cooked. Unfortunately, despite its attractive appearance, the Orange Peel Fungus is not particularly tasty

Still planting in the afternoon but it was glorious weather for this time of year!
