Tidenham Chase GWT Nature Reserve

Grid Ref ST558992

Christmas fish and chips beside a roaring fire on Tidenham Chase! Who could ask for more! Actually - we also had mince pies and mulled wine courtesy of the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. That did not mean that we were not working hard with the continual removal of the invasive birch!

We have been working on Tidenham Chase every couple of weeks this autumn and winter and this was our last visit for a while as we will proceed to another GWT reserve after Christmas. It is amazing to see how much of an impact we have made to this site and we will be interested to see the impact over the next year.

We started off by clearing all the birch at the back of the photo - herbiciding the stumps and burning the fire.

After lunch we moved to another area on the Chase and continued with the same job there.

Mince pies with cream and the very warming mulled wine were very much appreciated during the morning break.

The weather was really cold at just above freezing so the fire was a godsend!
