This area used to be swamped by brambles and straggly trees and now has a coppiced oak tree as its only feature.

The area through here has been cleared by an automated machine and shows a good open site for butterflies.

The weather was appalling as we started out at this site - heavy continuous rain although quite warm. We have already done a lot of work here before and there are now some good open areas to allow for butterflies and dragonflies in the summer. We cut back the straggly trees and bramble alongside the ditch but left the hawthorn trees which were abundant with berries for the birds.
