The fire blazed merrily all day and the heaps of old birch were soon dispatched.

It was a dull and dismal day at Wigpool but that did not stop the Dean Green Team from enjoying themselves!
Firstly, we started the fire and then dragged masses of birch brush which had been cut in the summer to burn it off. Then we cut more small birch which continually invades the heath and burnt that as well. We are using herbicide on the cut stems to prevent the birch from re-growing as we want this area to become proper heathland.
