Flaxley Woods

Grid Ref SO675159

A good autumn day for us all and we returned here to continue to clear the cut wood from the forest floor to allow an open area for wild flowers to grow. Contractors had been there to take down small trees.

At the start of the day, we had sunshine and the brush on the ground was quite deep.

We found this beautiful mushroom!
It is a Magpie Inkcap (Coprinopsis picacea). Magpie Inkcaps feed on tree and grass debris in woodland on calcareous soil; it is inedible and is said to have alarming poisonous effects.

The stretch we cleared and built habitat hedges on was probably 200 yards long!
