Blakes Wood
Grid Ref SO 5550 1236
This was a rarity as Blakes Wood is an area we had not been to before. We split into two teams - one team went to a rather large pond where we were coppicing around it's perimeter and the other team went deeper into the wood to clear an area noted for it's wild orchids.
| The coppicing around this pond was done to increase the light across the pond. Toads are known to frequent this pond. |
|
| This is the orchid area and all the small cut trees which can be seen were piled into habitat piles. |
|
| We were fortunate to have a small fire to warm us up during the lunch break. The weather forecast for the rest of the week is snow and unusually cold weather for March. |
