Bixslade Tramway

Grid Ref SO 605 099

This was our annual task to clear the old stones of the tramway at Bixslade Trail. It was a hot day! The route takes in lots of interesting cultural and built heritage including mines, quarries and the Severn & Wye Railway's Bixslade tram road which was the last horse drawn tram road to operate in the Dean.

It is a kneeling down job using trowels to remove the foliage!

There are two lines of tram stones and those on the left of the image tend to get completely smothered by the foliage.

We can never do the whole tramway as it is about a mile long but we do sufficient for people to see how it used to be.
