Awres Glow and Mallards Pike

Grid Ref SO 6362 0926

We drove through the forest from Mallards Pike car park up to Awres Glow. We split into two groups, one working by the small ponds or scrapes and the other group a bit lower down the hill. Our task was to remove small birch and conifer but to leave the gorse and other vegetation. This was to open up the area for wild flowers and insects. The brash was made into piles to provide shelter for amphibians in particular as this is a good area for them

One of the ponds.

It was a very wet day!

Clearing through the tangle of bracken and gorse.

This is the cascade of water flowing out of Mallards Pike Lake which was impressive today as there had been torrential rain.
