Tidenham Chase Park GWT Reserve

Grid Ref ST558992

We are in the middle of a very unusual heatwave for this time of year!

The team continued to clear birch and gorse for heathland restoration but we could not burn the piles of brash because of the risk of the fire spreading out on the very dry land.

The ponds under the trees are, luckily, still full of water.

We needed good breaks under the trees as our work of clearing was out in the sunshine - very sweaty!

This is interesting -

In this large reserve there are about 15 Highland Cattle and they use their large horns to break down the young birch so that they can nibble on the top leaves. We found many of these small broken birch trees.
