Speculation

Removing old wire strands from the railway line posts. The origins of the railway in the Forest of Dean can be traced back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, driven by the booming coal and iron industries. .

Our ranger is explaining the task to us.

This is a well used boar wallow at the foot of a telegraph pole which now has protective rubber around it..

Piles of rusted wire at the front of the image - this steel wire would be way over 100 years old!.
