Location: from Mitcheldean drive up ‘The Stenders’ road, after 0.5 mile take left to ‘Wigpool’ continue to crossroad looking junction and GWT truck.

Very derelict area, needs everything cut and removed to encourage bog flora to bloom again.

Lord’s Wood, The Doward
Part of NATIONAL TREE WEEK

From A40 dual carriageway take Symonds Yat West exit, follow narrow lanes to Doward, picking up signs to Biblins youth campsite.
After 1.5 miles, Lane bends sharp left at SO548157 by Doward Campsite.

Take the forest road to the right here (white arrow) and go through the King Arthurs Cave car park and through the metal barrier. Take next left along forest road and park at SO552151

Clearing trees from around rare Sorbus trees

We will be working with the country's expert on Sorbus trees, Tim Rich and Jon Stokes from the Tree Council

Stenders Quarry

MEET: on ‘the Stenders’ road which heads west out of Mitcheldean passing its church. Reserve entrance is just as speed limit becomes national.

Parking restrictive but Howard (Stenders Volunteer Warden) can usually help on the morning.

Staunton Meend

Take the A4136 towards Monmouth and
after the White Horse pub at Staunton, turn left up the no-through road and follow the signs to
the Buckstone Adventure Centre.

Scrub clearance/possibly walling.

All tasks are led by FC Ranger or GWT Ranger staff, start at 9.45 am and finish around 3pm

Guidelines for FC/GWT volunteers- please read and take note!

When driving on forest roads please drive at 15mph maximum be aware of other forest users walkers/dogs/cyclists/horse riders etc.

Please wear appropriate work wear e.g. gloves, work boots, old clothes, bump cap (goggles available),

Keep safe working distances from each other 2 tree lengths when felling and 15 metres from a strimmer.

Never work close to or under a powerline.

Work carefully, stay safe! Avoid lone working and report any hazards, near misses or dangerous occurrences to supervisor.

Please see detailed risk assessments at sessions.

There is ALWAYS a qualified First Aider on site so don't be shy about requesting help - Even minor cuts need treating to avoid infection!
