Hadnock. near the Biblins Bridge along River Wye

 

From Coleford take the B4228 to Berry Hill. Approx 300metres before the Christchurch/Bracelands campsite crossroads, go left along a track, bear left and enter the wood through a metal barrier at SO570125. Follow the main forest road for about 2 miles down to the river,turn left at river and follow forest road for another mile or so to the end of the wood

Edgehills Heathland restoration

 

Meet: Kev at FC Forest gate at end of forest track that starts opposite to 'Wilderness' road sign on Plump Hill near Mitcheldean.

Location: The 'Wilderness' road sign is one of a kind and on the A4136 at the highest point between Cinderford and Mitcheldean. Drive as high as you can on this road (A4136) and within 100m will be the 'Wilderness' sign, take the unnamed forest track opposite. Continue along forest track for approx. 1 mile to Forest gate and Edgehills nature reserve.

Horsepool Bottom Nature Reserve

at Oakraven Field Centre, Jubilee Road, Mitcheldean, GL17 0HC

 

From Mitcheldean take the A4136 towards Coleford/Monmouth and take the first left down Jubilee Road. Oakraven is along there on the left after a couple of miles.

General maintenance on the reserve and coppicing.

Foxes Bridge Colliery Tip

 

Enter the forest at the metal barrier behind the sewage works at SO644138From Valley Road roundabout, Cinderford

Take the track to the burger van on the Linear Park (turn off Valley Road at SO649138). Follow this track past the burger van and park just beyond the metal barrier behind the sewage works.

The track by the sewage works is very potholed but will be fixed by the 26th Feb.

DO NOT go the Crabtree Hill way.

Worcester Walk ( Worcester Lodge Old Campsite)

 

From Cannop Crossroads go up hill towards Coleford and just after the Council recycling centre take the forest road to Worcester Lodge and park in the field at the top of the driveway.

Helping the Worcester Walk community Group improve the area for wildlife.

Spruce Ride (Arboretum)

 

 

Use the back car park of the Arboretum (or park along Spruce Ride) which is along the road from Speech House to New Fancy View.

Removing the big tree guards going down the avenue and taking out the regen and scrub (hopefully have a fire)

All tasks are led by FC Ranger or GWT Ranger staff, start at 9.45 am and finish around 3pm

Guidelines for FC/GWT volunteers- please read and take note!

When driving on forest roads please drive at 15mph maximum be aware of other forest users walkers/dogs/cyclists/horse riders etc.

Please wear appropriate work wear e.g. gloves, work boots, old clothes, bump cap (goggles available),

Keep safe working distances from each other 2 tree lengths when felling and 15 metres from a strimmer.

Never work close to or under a powerline.

Work carefully, stay safe! Avoid lone working and report any hazards, near misses or dangerous occurrences to supervisor.

Please see detailed risk assessments at sessions.

There is ALWAYS a qualified First Aider on site so don't be shy about requesting help - Even minor cuts need treating to avoid infection!
