Hadnock. near the Biblins Bridge along River Wye

From Coleford take the B4228 to Berry Hill. Approx 300metres before the Christchurch/Bracelands campsite crossroads, go left along a track, bear left and enter the wood through a metal barrier at SO570125.

Follow the main forest road for about 2 miles down to the river, turn left at river and follow forest road for another mile or so and park alongside the forest road or at the end of the wood

Scrub clearance for the Drab Looper moth and Wood White butterfly

Linear Park/Foxes Bridge Colliery Tip area

Enter the forest at the metal barrier behind the sewage works at SO644138

From Valley Road roundabout, Cinderford take the track to the burger van on the Linear Park (turn off Valley Road at SO649138). Follow this track past the burger van and park just beyond the metal barrier behind the sewage works.

Bramble pulling and weeding on butterfly areas Scrub clearance and adder hibernaculum creation on all areas.

From Coleford take B4228, turn right by the Lambsquay Hotel down Lambsquay Road towards Clearwell.

Turn left at SO578083 into the Clearwell Caves car park. Park in the top car park, ie the one furthest away at SO578082

Woorgreen Lake GWT Reserve

Follow the track past Kensley Lodge turning right at the first gate and follow through to the enclosure gate and, inside the fenced area, park on the main track running east to west.

Burning the excess of conifers and any alder brash. Alder logs will be retained in frequent refuge piles as amphibians are an important focus here

Xmas Work Day and lunch-

Meet at Great Palescot, Middleridge Inclosure (top of Awres Glow)

Go into Mallards Pike car park (SO637088), through the 2 wooden barrier by the café and continue up the forest track past Go Ape.

DO NOT take the right turn between the 2 lakes that we have used in the past. About 300 metres after Go Ape, take the first forest road to the right (SO63630976) and follow this track for about a mile to the top.

Work site here and park along the side of the tracks

then go to Horsepool Bottom Nature Reserve at Oakraven Field Centre for 12.00 noon for lunch and a little more work, kindly hosted by Andy Moir again.

Horsepool Bottom Nature Reserve at Oakraven Field Centre, Jubilee Road, Mitcheldean, GL17 0HC

From Mitcheldean take the A4136 towards Coleford/Monmouth and take the first left down Jubilee Road. Oakraven is along there on the left after a couple of miles.

Edgehills – Heathland restoration

The 'Wilderness' road sign is one of a kind and on the A4136 at the highest point on Plump Hill between Cinderford and Mitcheldean. Drive as high as you can on this road (A4136) and within 100m will be the 'Wilderness' sign, take the unnamed forest track opposite. Continue along forest track for approx. 1 mile to Forest gate and Edgehills nature reserve.

Clearing birch from open habitat.

This birch is much more spread apart as it's regen from small trees missed in previous years.

We need to go about it slightly differently to be able to treat it and burn it. Probably, we all move in a fairly linear line sweeping down the reserve so we can find and treat stumps. Then, when all birch is cut and treated, we need to gather it up and walk to some very distant fires.

All tasks are led by FC Ranger or GWT Ranger staff, start at 9.45 am and finish around 3pm

Guidelines for FC/GWT volunteers- please read and take note!

When driving on forest roads please drive at 15mph maximum be aware of other forest users walkers/dogs/cyclists/horse riders etc.

Please wear appropriate work wear e.g. gloves, work boots, old clothes, bump cap (goggles available),

Keep safe working distances from each other 2 tree lengths when felling and 15 metres from a strimmer.

Never work close to or under a powerline.

Work carefully, stay safe! Avoid lone working and report any hazards, near misses or dangerous occurrences to supervisor.

Please see detailed risk assessments at sessions.

There is ALWAYS a qualified First Aider on site so don't be shy about requesting help - Even minor cuts need treating to avoid infection!
