15 December 2009

We soon got a fire lit courtesy of the wet weather matches provided by our leader - what an excellent idea!

It was really dark as we prepared to start tidying up the heathland.

Such a dreary day! But we do not notice it once we got started. We cleared up and burnt a lot of old brush and the fires were very warming. More gorse and birch were removed. This is all part of the heathland regeneration for this area and for the nightjars in particular.

Dreary day!

The fire is burning well. The tree stumps on the left remain there for the nightjars in the spring.
