Edgehills Bog GWT Nature Reserve

Grid Ref SO660154

It was a dank and dismal day with fog but that did not deter us! Last week there was a good covering of snow in the forest and it has all gone now. We were quite spread out cutting, dragging and burning small birch to restore the heathland to gorse and heather.

Dead bracken is very evident but w there has been a machine through the area to mulch down wide tracks and the bracken should be sprayed during the year.

Getting a fire started.

We had five fires going as we were well spread out and that meant that we did not have to drag the branches too far.

Most of the birch was about this size which is, maybe, a couple of years growth. The stumps were sprayed with herbicide afterwards although it is impossible to stop all future birch growth.
